I was wrong. Yesterday wasn't the centennial anniversary; tomorrow is. Tomorrow morning at 5:12 am marks the centennial anniversary of the Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and fire that destroyed half of the city. The San Francisco I live in was born from the devastation. The earthquake was 7.9 or 8.3 on the Richter scale (scientists can't really agree), which is about 30 times stronger than the 7.1 Loma Prieta earthquake from 1989 that crumbled the Marina district and damaged the Bay Bridge. Please take a moment to mourn the loss of the old San Francisco and celebrate the birth of the new San Francisco. This city has a big piece of my heart.
